As you may have heard, Asian beauty brands break the rules in skincare and are here to radically change our beauty routine for the better. I already spoke about certain new skincare trends coming from the East and there are so many amazing brands that develop new products and create innovations to keep us looking younger for longer.
One company that I want to tell you about is Akar Skin. I had the chance to sample some of their products and I loved them so much, that I have been using them for the past month without failure. I had enough time to play around with them and examine the results, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
Akar means White Crystal in Tibetan. Taking their inspiration from the Plateau of Tibet, the brand’s mission is to bring us pure and 100% natural skincare which is compatible with the body. They are able to achieve this by sourcing only the highest grade natural ingredients from those high altitudes, wild harvested and free of pollution.
The in-house formulated and handcrafted small batch skincare is all natural, fresh and highly concentrated unlike other products diluted with water. You will NOT find mineral oil, synthetic fragrances and colorants, sulfates, parabens, phenoxyethanol, silicones, PEGs, PPGs, DEA, TEA, phthalates, GMO ingredients and artificial preservatives in any of our products. Find out more about the difference of Akar Skin.
The approach to quality doesn’t end there. Akar Skin uses dark violet glass jars produced in Switzerland. Whilst plastic can add nasty chemicals to the product inside, most glass bottles would let light through which accelerates the molecular decaying process and diminishes the product’s potency. Akar jars and bottles are designed precisely to preserve the products quality. Working like filters, the dark violet glass allows only the good light to pass through keeping the potion fresh.
Lush balance face toning mist
The toning mist is one of my favourite products. Transferring light rose fragrance it protects the skin from free radicals and helps to smooth fine lines. It feels very refreshing and I keep it in the fridge to have a pore tightening effect.
Price: $33.00 for 50 ml
Desert rescue face oil
Using camellia oil this concentrate seals the moisture into the skin, providing antioxidants and vitamins A, E and D. Jojoba oil, on the other hand, is very similar to the sebum our skin produces, enabling rapid absorption. The plant extracts are carefully chosen to soothe and heal skin while providing anti-aging benefits.
I find this face oil very light weight and it gets absorbed very quickly, even when applied after the toning mist. I only need 2 drops to cover my whole face.
Price: $80 for 30 ml
Nutrient boost eye serum
The eye serum has a bouquet of essential oils which are specifically formulated to work on the delicate eye area to reduce puffiness, dryness, dark circles and wrinkles. The scent is a bit more complex and the colour is darker than the face oil. It feels a little heavier, but once applied, it absorbs pretty quickly. Goji seed oil, pumpkin seed oil, mushroom extract and a wealth of nutritive plant extracts tighten and rejuvenate tired skin.
Price: $73 for 10 ml
Mini care lip butter
The lip butter is truly one of the best lip balms that have ever touched my lips. It’s light, yet nourishing. It’s creamy, but doesn’t stick. It smells lovely, but doesn’t make you eat it – it just stays on the lips for hours. A refreshing mix of soothing oils and nutrient-rich extracts smoothes lines and keeps lips soft and hydrated.
“Traditional lip balms contain petroleum (mineral oil) in their formulation. This creates a false sense of hydration by completely sealing the lips like a plastic coating while clogging and suffocating the pores, leaving your lips drier with time” – Akar Skin explains. The petroleum free lip butter provides the perfect hydration.
Price: $20 for 7 ml
I’m very impressed by all the Akar Skin products that I’ve been testing. They are organic, not tested on animals, and smell & feel amazing on the skin. Although they have no preservatives, the brand suggests they have a one-year shelf life. I keep them in the fridge where most of my cosmetics stays, especially in the summer.
After a month using the range, my skin feels well hydrated, with very good elasticity and a healthy glow, despite the summer heatwave.
