It’s everywhere on the news at the moment – newspapers, radio, online news websites. Amazingly, I first read about it on a Bulgarian website this morning.
If you still don’t know, Angelina has made a preventive double mastectomy and an immediately reconstruction in April 2013.
I want to say that she’s a very brave woman and I absolutely support her for taking such a hard decision and especially making it public. I can’t imagine what she went through, just considering the whole process. This is probably every woman’s biggest fear… or one of the biggest. Knowing she had high chances of developing breast cancer, yet she did a preventive surgery to reduce the risk dramatically.
Adding to the difficulties in taking such a personal decision, comes the fact that she made it public. She didn’t hide and try to keep it as a secret, but revealed in order to help other women. I listened to an interview of the first British woman that made the same preventive surgery 3 years ago and how everyone thought she was insane for doing it. As she said: if you know there is 87% chance for a plane to crash, you wouldn’t go on it, would you?!
Strong women! Truly brave! Inspiring!
