I’m no different from most Bulgarians – I love my yogurt! I can have it as a dip, drink it, or eat it all day long. It plays a huge role in my diet plan. The only time I’ll have milk is with my flat white in the morning.
With chia seeds getting so popular lately, I introduced them to our kitchen. Sometimes I would add a handful when I bake bread on the weekend, another time I’d top up the veg stir fry. A big favourite of mine though is the chia seed fruit yogurt. It’s full of healthy goodness, nutrients, protein, looks kind of cool, tastes so yummy and is good for the tummy. Here is how I make it…
What kind of yogurt
Let’s start with the yogurt – I use Bulgarian or Turkish style, whichever I find in the shop. The Greek yogurt is too sweet for me, but you can use what you like the most.
I prefer the yogurt savoury, so a little fruit gives just enough sweetness for me. On this occasion I’m using half a peach in each cup. I’ve also tried it with banana and raspberries and it tastes very good. Any creamy fruit would be perfect for the recipe, so you can experiment here.
I press the fruit with a fork to turn it into a sweet mash and top it up with a teaspoon of chia seeds and a sachet of baobab.
Baobab by Aduna
I recently discovered the super fruit baobab. It’s a raw wholefood and is rich in antioxidants, fibre, calcium and vitamin C. Aduna are on a mission to make baobab famous, so if you want to learn more about its health and beauty benefits, make sure you check their website to learn about all the amazing things is does.
You can also help communities in Africa feel the love every time you add a spoon of goodness to your food!
I finally add a few spoons of my favourite yogurt and mix it all up. You can add a spoon of honey, if you like it sweeter.
That’s it! Pretty simple, but you need to leave it in the fridge overnight, so the chia seeds soak up moisture from the yogurt and soften. Well, it can be consumed immediately, but it tastes better and gets smoother on the next day.
Note: I add a handful of crushed nuts and seeds on the top to give it a nice contrast in texture.
1 peach (berries or other creamy fruit)
1 tsp chia seeds
1 sachet baobab powder (optional)
5-6 tbsp yogurt
1 tsp honey (optional)
1 tbsp crushed nuts and seeds
