It’s no lie that breakfast is the most important meal of the day… for me. If you ask my husband, he’d tell you that I get up only because I’m hungry. Once I have my morning flat white, I start cooking. On some mornings he hasn’t even opened his eyes properly and read the newspapers yet, but I’m already serving breakfast. Even my dad knows he shouldn’t call me in the morning, until I’ve eaten.
I’m weird, I know. I’m even more weird, because I can’t do with a light European breakfast. Anything sweet like cereal is not on my menu, maybe just a French croissant in the afternoon. I need my high protein breakfast, balanced with little carbs and healthy fibre for a good start to the day.
Now I have a little secret to help me in the kitchen for those hungry days – especially after a workout. It’s called Blend Bros!
What is Blend Bros
Blend Bros is a genius idea, providing powerful food for the athlete in all of us! These guys have invented the worlds first high protein herbs & spice mix. It’s a tasty, healthy and cost-effective bridge between fitness and the kitchen.
“At Blend Brothers we’ve often struggled to get enough protein into our daily diets without breaking the bank! Yes, the whey-based shakes can ease the strain on the wallet, but most are super sweet at best and gag-inducing at worst, hardly something to look forward to.
We developed Savoury Blend high-protein herb and spices mixes as a simple & convenient way to increase the protein in everyones diet, to decrease the damage done to your wallet, all the while ensuring our flavours are as authentic & downright tasty as could be (40 years of family experience in the food trade helped with that!)
This is just the beginning & our product pipeline is fit to burst…”
The savoury blend is a mix of herbs and spices, combined with 20 grams of pure pea protein in each serving. It comes in 5 different flavours: Indian Kerala Curry, Sicilian Lemon & Oregano, Spanish Tomato & Chorizo, Mexican Pibil Stew and Thai Jungle Curry. With each box of spice you will receive a scoop, suggested recipe, full nutritional information and a little info about the region that inspired the blend. It’s suitable for vegetarians!
At the moment I’ve got a box of Thai Jungle Curry and despite the fact I’m not a massive fan of ginger, I’m loving it! I’ve tried it in so many different ways and it always tastes great: with chicken bites in pitta bread for lunch; on chicken thighs with yogurt for dinner; and with steamed mackerel for breakfast.
How to use
It’s super simple: boil a bit of water, stir the spice mix in until it blends. Ready to go!
You can pour the sauce over your meal or even cook in it. Read more here.
My protein breakfast recipe
Time to share with you one of my typical protein breakfast menus.
- First I boil a little bit of water in the kettle, which I pour in the pan. I mix the savoury blend in the water, and put some eggs to boil on the other hot plate.
- I add sliced mackerel fillets in the frying pan to steam in the sauce, each side for 4-5 min.
- I add chopped leek to the saucepan when I turn the mackerel on the other side.
- In 10 minutes time the eggs are boiled and the mackerel is cooked. My protein breakfast is ready!
I serve the breakfast with a few slices of wholemeal bread and fresh tomatoes, a choice of tarama salad and butter. The Thai Jungle Curry gives a little bit of a kick to wake you up.
Now I’m ready for my daily adventures! :))
I hope you like my recipe. It can be also prepared for lunch or any other time of the day. It’s just a suggestion to show you how I use the savoury blend quite often. The next flavour on my wishlist is the Sicilian Lemon & Oregano.
It is super simple to cook with Blend Bros and it really feeds you well, without the need for protein shakes.
