The shoes every woman should own – a style guide

They say you can tell a lot about a person from the shoes they wear, but why limit yourself to just one pair? The right shoes can pull an outfit together like nothing else and help you to step out with confidence.

Not sure what your wardrobe might be missing? Here are the shoes every woman should own.

Chelsea boots

There’s a reason this classic style comes back year after year. Chelsea boots are cool, effortless, and add a bit of an edge to whatever outfit you wear them with. They’re also very comfortable and practical when the weather gets colder.

Stick to a flat sole, or go for a chunky block heel if you like having that extra bit of height. Classic black leather is always a winner, but look out for animal prints or luxe jewel colours in fabrics like velvet and suede as well.

Work shoes

This will depend on what kind of job you have, but if you’re in charge of your own work wardrobe then you can’t go wrong with a pair of loafers or pointed pumps (either flat or with a heel, depending on your preference).

Both styles of shoe are smart enough for the office, but not so formal you can’t wear them during your free time, too. Black suede or leather go with practically everything and won’t look out of place in either scenario.

Comfortable trainers

Whether you’re at the gym or running errands, your feet need support and that’s where trainers come in. Once reserved for workouts alone, trainers have become a more essential part of every woman’s wardrobe thanks to their versatility.

They go with jeans, they go with dresses; they even go with smart black trousers. Experiment and see what looks you can come up with.

The ultimate summer shoe. The brilliant thing about sandals is that there’s a pair to suit everyone, whether you like barely-there styles in neutral colours or bright colours and criss-cross straps.

Choose a pair that offer plenty of support for your feet and you’ll be able to pack them for a summer city break and a beach holiday. Pair them with a cute sundress or cut-off denim shorts for the most chilled-out look.

A fun pair of heels

Nights out and special occasions are the perfect time to break free of all the rules and be more experimental with the way you dress, and that includes your shoes. Floral, animal-inspired prints, embellishments, metallics… there are no limits on how fun your favourite pair of heels can look.

Nervous about looking too over-the-top? Choose a simple dress and let your shoes do all the talking.
